【The Sound of Blooming Love】Deciphering the Love Codes in Songs without Words
Music, the most beautiful love letter in the world, is often a way for composers to express their unspeakable affections. Only when people are able to decode these hidden passwords, they suddenly realize what does hide inside the music. As an active flutist, Dr. Jennie Lin, Associate Professor of Music & Arts at Chung-Yuan Christian University , will talk about how she was inspired by translating Peter-Lukas Graf's book-The Singing Flute.
She will demonstrate the original folk songs that Béla Bartók adopted in his Suite Paysanne Hongroise (arr. Paul Arma). These folk songs carry the most pure and direct expression of Hungarian peasants. In addition, Dr. Lin will talk about her project “Songs without Words” with pianist, Chia-Chi Hsu. Their recent released CD “INNIG”, features on Robert and Clara Schumman’s lieds, is a beautiful transcription for flute and piano. We will see how these two composers transform German Romantic poems into their music as an indirect mean to express their love to each other. No matter in those direct and rustic folk songs, or in those vague and sublimate German lieds, if we listen to them carefully, we will heard the same thing, the sound of blooming love.
